The Outlaws Sequel - New Blood

The Outlaws

Synopsis and Sequel Project

In the original book, The Outlaws, I write about Chuck, a long-time skydiver and pilot, who for many years and a variety of reasons, including living up to family responsibilities,  advancing age and medical issues,  has not been able to enjoy the skydiving and flying that once defined who he was and that made him feel the most alive. In his Seventies, he has found himself inadvertently reliving his past life and his happy memories as a jumper and pilot by spending endless hours reminiscing with others on the internet that, like himself, sorely miss the heady days of his youth. He yearns to return to the things that made him the happiest and most fulfilled – the camaraderie of his sky loving friends, the thrill of skydiving and the joy of flight. Then, one day, he makes a fateful decision to recapture his past and attempt to again become who he used to be in spite of the legal and personal risks he must take.

Circumstances have put Chuck in a position to once again begin skydiving and flying, and to create a group of like-minded old-time jumpers and pilots who share his passions. But it must be done in secret because most of what he and his friends are about to do is illegal and in violation of Federal Aviation regulations. Moreover, the band of aerial misfits is no longer the strong, virile men they used to be, and that poses yet more risks. In spite of that, Chuck and a long time friend, Buzz, another old jumper and pilot, join together to create The Outlaws.

The story is one of the excitement and travails experienced by those who long ago closed their logbooks and retired their parachutes and parked their airplanes when they get an invitation from Chuck and Buzz to join their secret club. The group grows slowly with rousing nights spent around a campfire near a small hidden airstrip and days spent relearning and indulging in the things that bind them together – skydiving and flight. There are moments of anxiety, acts of foolishness and pranks, and hours of once again enjoying the fellowship of an exclusive group of people who have something special in common. The Outlaws, as they have come to call themselves, live by one motto, "Death is not to fear, not living life is."

The Sequel Project

How You Can Become an Outlaw!

As I embark on writing the upcoming sequel, The Outlaws - New Blood, the ongoing adventures about the original band of skydiving and flying outlaws who have gathered together for some time at Chuck’s illegal drop zone and hidden airstrip,  nick-named “The Farm,” to jump, fly, and spend time indulging in the high jinks common to the old school skydivers and pilots of yesteryear, I have decided to invite you to take part. As the sequel begins, it has been a time of rebirth for most of the Outlaws. But, for various reasons, their numbers have begun to dwindle. So the decision is made to invite new members to join.

So, as I begin the writing of the sequel, I have decided to hold “auditions” of a sort to find those new Outlaws. In other words, if you would like to become a character in the upcoming sequel, a new member of The Outlaws, here is what you can do:

1. Read the original book, The Outlaws. Get in the spirit of things. The original book, The Outlaws, is available here in .pdf form to download and read it at no charge in its entirety. (Link below “The Outlaws 2025 .pdf”) It is also available on Amazon in hardcover and on Kindle.

2. Based on yourself or someone you know, develop a new Outlaw character. Give your character an alias, not your real name. Give me some background, i.e., tell me about your character’s attributes and personality and tell me a very short story that makes your character interesting or unique. Perhaps, in as few words as possible, tell me a story about an amusing incident involving your proposed character. If I like the character, I’ll run with it from there and write your character into the book.

3. Send your “auditon” to: skygeezers@gmail.com When you do, if you also send me your mailing address, I’ll send you an official Outlaws patch.

4. If your character is used, you will be credited in the “acknowledgments” section of the book when it’s published.

I look forward to hearing from you!
